Last night I watched the count down and relived those moments. The funny thing is I remember it being rather dark outside when they stepped onto the Moon. I was in Orange County, and now I live in Seattle. It was broad daylight this time! Which shows how much daylight shifts as you go further north into White Nights.

Bummer they erased the original tape, but I do remember it was super hard to make out the figure of Neil Armstrong. The cleaned up version is much nicer. Very exciting...

I was in summer school 3rd grade when our class watched the launch...I still remember it. I thought it was boring. Our teacher took away our recess to make us watch the launch..I remember a few kids cried because they wanted to go out and play instead!!

I remember the day clearly because it was my neighbor's 11th birthday, and we were at their house watching, along with everyone else. We went there because they had a console color TV whereas we just had a portable black and white. That wasn't hard to figure out!

Oh man, I remember those cheesy TV carts...I think my parents' 15" b&w TV was sitting on one of those when we were watching, too!

I was at summer school (for fun) and watched it on a b&w TV that was sitting on a tall metal stand.
Looking back, it was cool to see it with a bunch of other kids.

I was in front of my TV, breathlessly awaiting the time when the lunar module would touch down on the Moon. And when it did, I felt enormous relief and joy. I watched as Neil Armstrong made that first "small step for man, but a giant leap for mankind." I was really moved by that statement. All in all, that day, will forever remain in my mind.

I was in Atlantic City at a COWSILLS concert!! I was 15 LOL I remember that because the group came on stage and said they just got done watching the MOON LANDING...I missed it for being there but seen it plenty of times later!!

I remember watching this on a color TV, and the primary colors were black and white anyway; flag was neat; we all joked about how there was no wind on the moon but the flag was on full display.

I was 17 and was babysitting three boys that night. The baby was asleep and the other two were excited about the landing so we all sat together on the sofa watching. It was so amazing.

I had just been married for three weeks, and my husband and I went up to my parents' cottage for the weekend. A large group of us were all gathered around a little black-and-white television trying to deciper what we were viewing. Of course, we were all moved as we looked from the tv to the moon and back to the tv again just trying to make the connection. We were very proud Americans that night. To this day, I am totally amazed we can fly in outer space and return to earth again.

I was attending school for six months in Florence, Italy. We all knew about the Apollo 11 mission and what was about to happen. So various groups of students (there were 160 of us on the campus) went out to various local cafes, where the locals would congregate because there were always television sets there. We crowded around a pokey little 12 or 15" portable B&W trying to decipher the shadowy shapes on the screen. I think the YouTube videos look clearer. We were all very excited - and I started collecting all of the articles I could find for awhile after that!

Silly question! Glued to the telly of course! I had walked the dog over to my best friend's house earlier that night, looking up and thinking about how we had people sitting on that thing up in the sky............ my best friend and I were real sci fi nuts, and talked a lot about it that night. It was quite late when they came out (I don't think they could sleep!) and the telly was very very fuzzy, we couldn't see the first step all that well. It was apparently a real hair raising...
