STEPPIN' THROUGH A TIME ZONE! - 1999
This section celebrates everything Moody Blues through providing an amazing factoid, a Moody myth-busting reality check and a daily question to test your knowledge of the band.
OUR GUESSING GAME - YESTERDAY'S ANSWER
What was John Lodge’s first commercial release? Can't Chance a Break-Up with The John Bull Breed in 1966, although he did record a demo (Blues Stay Away from Me) with The Carpetbaggers in 1964.
HAVE YOU HEARD?
Did you know that Ray Thomas decided on his 55th birthday that he would stop touring when he turned 60? He kept the decision to himself until the time came nearer.
NO MORE LIES
Myth: Because Ray Thomas was often to be seen banging the tambourine on stage in songs that didn’t require his flute, he must have been the one playing the percussion instrument on the recordings. Reality: In actual fact, Ray, Mike Pinder and Graeme Edge regularly picked up the tambourine on stage (later the side musicians such as Norda Mullen would also take up the role). However, on record, it was almost always Mike who kept the place with his rhythmic tinkling.
OUR GUESSING GAME
How many and what were the charity records featuring members of the Moody Blues?
Come back tomorrow to find out the answer, plus new facts, a new question and another myth busted!
1999 On the threshold of a new millennium, the Moody Blues released their first studio album since 1991's "Keys of the Kingdom". Entitled "Strange Times", it contained 14 tracks, one of which was also released as the single "English Sunset". Did you buy the album and/or single at the time? What is your overall opinion of the album and which are your favorite tracks? Any tracks you thought could have been left off or would you have changed the order of songs?
The band continued playing concerts backed by symphony orchestras this year. Did you attend one of those concerts? What do you remember about it? Did you take photos or videos?
On January 10 this year, the popular animated series "The Simpsons" aired an episode guest-starring the Moody Blues and the band provided the voices for their animated likenesses. Do you remember seeing that episode when it first aired? What was your reaction? Did it come as a surprise to you or did you know in advance that the Moodies would be portrayed on the show?

Sal and Juwli, I was just like you too at that point in time. Strange Times indeed! I lost contact with the band back then due to family crises and all kinds of things going on, but they and their music never left my heart. I didn't buy Strange Times until about three years after it was released and I came back to my senses and got back into the Moodies and finally into the fan community. So much time I had to try and make up for! But it has been a wonderful adventure and continues to be.
I just listened to the album again last night and it certainly has some gorgeous music on it. It's just full of gems. The song English Sunset is such a strong composition, musically and lyrically, and of the English people I know, it voices many of their own sentiments. Haunted is just beautiful in every way. Love that song. Sooner or Later is my favorite on the album. There's something about the words and music that truly touches me and I just love Justin's voice when he sings "we'll be walking on air". It makes my heart SOAR! I love Wherever You Are by John. It reminds me of Nervous from LDV, which I love. And of course Ray's My Little Lovely is SO lovely! It is so typical of Ray with its whimsical feel, holding a deeper meaning with a very beautiful melody. The guitar work on The Swallow...breathtaking. I could go on, but I won't comment on every song here. It is just a very good album.
The San Juan Capistrano album is wonderful too. I agree Juwli! Where's Driftwood???? But it IS nice.
