Evening shadows deepen

Twilight settles on the ground

It's in the air and everywhere

Winding this day down

And I notice that you're yawning

It's nearly time for bed

You're sitting still and looking

For a place to rest your head

There must've been a thousand themes

And plots you planned at play

With Peter Pan in Neverland

Keeping pirate ships at bay

You'd like to fight off sleepiness

If you could find a way

But dreams are drifting 'round your feet

It's been such a busy day

Come sail away with me

On a slip of that silvery moon

Breathe in the lazy breezes

Of a gypsy-flowered June

We'll leave our cares behind us

Float away on a big red balloon

And I'll make-believe for a little while

You won't sail away too soon

I've watched you as you've been growing

Did you know that I saw you out there

Shooting baskets through a rusty hoop

Practicing hang-time in the air

I've seen you run through the garden

Tilting windmills in the corn

How did the days pile up so fast

Since that morning you were born

You can sail away on the sea

In a ship made of paper and twine

On the winds of imagination

Set a course of your own sweet design

Chart anywhere you care be

Choose any destination and time

And I will smile as the seasons change

Feeling blessed just to know you were mine
