Nirvana, Kiss, Linda Ronstadt, Yes and Hall and Oates are among the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2014, according to a post on RollingStone.com.
The announcement wasn't expected to be made until midnight tonight, but RollingStone.com jumped the gun, perhaps inadvertently (the time stamp on the post reads 12:05 a.m., Oct. 16).
Others on the ballot, according to RollingStone.com, include the Replacements, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Chic, Deep Purple, Peter Gabriel (already in the hall once, as a member of Genesis), LL Cool J, N.W.A., Link Wray, the Meters, Cat Stevens and the Zombies.
Approximately five to seven of these artists will be inducted into the hall in April, at a New York City ceremony.
Among those left off the list: New Jerseyans Bon Jovi and Whitney Houston, the Moody Blues, Chicago, Willie Nelson, the Smiths, De La Soul, the Cure, Phish and Brian Eno.
Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner is one of the driving forces behind the hall, and from now to Dec. 10, fans can vote for their favorite acts on RollingStone.com (though the fans' collective, single ballot won't count any more than any one of the 600 ballots cast by industry insiders).
Let the sniping begin: Who do you think represents the bigger oversight this year?
