A day in the life of Justin Hayward while not on tour consists of numerous interviews for various outlets across the world. While it can be overwhelming at times, it’s the norm for him.
“I feel very lucky and privileged to be working with music still,” he says during a recent phone interview. “We’ve been going strong for more than 40 years.”
Hayward is one of the members of British rock outfit The Moody Blues.
The band has cemented its place in music history by selling more than 55 million records worldwide.
The band is best known for its biggest single, “Nights in White Satin.” It has also charted nearly a dozen Top 40 singles.
Hayward has been with the band since 1966, and he has seen the many changes along the way. Joining him in the band are members John Lodge and Graeme Edge.
For one, he says the music industry is completely different than when the band began.
“It’s a weird transition area for the music industry,” he says. “Technology is moving way faster than what we know what do to with it.”
In addition to performing with the band, Hayward also tours with his solo music. Balancing the two has the 68-year-old musician quite busy.
He says about three years ago he was working for Universal records and mixing DVDs and remastering some music.
“One day my engineer in Italy told me that I should do some solo demos,” he says. “This was a labor of love for me to actually produce some of my solo music.”
His solo work is a reflection of his life now and the relationships that he’s able to keep.
“Your latest albums are most precious and I am really loving my new work,” he says. “It’s been nearly eight months that I’ve been on the road. I have a few more with the band and then I head out to the U.K. for more of my solo stuff. Then I come back to the States with my solo stuff.”http://www.abqjournal.com/581025/entertainment/albuquerque-rock-82.html
