2017-02-26 Review of Justin's Solo Concert –Clearwater
So I sat in my living room on Sunday morning and thought about the two shows I had seen so far. I had not really had a good time at either of them and seriously was thinking about skipping the Clearwater show. But I had the ticket and the hotel reserved and I figured oh, what the heck, GO!! I thought that I might actually be getting over my 43 year long crush on Justin. It crossed my mind that I had spent a huge fortune over the years on The Moody Blues and Justin Hayward. So, with that in mind, I got in the car and drove to Clearwater – and fell in love with “the man” all over again!!!
As I said, I compare things and this was, by far, the best concert of the three I had seen in the past week. To start with, my seat was actually in the front row, right in front of Justin. Mike came out and played his usual four songs and he is totally amazing. And the seats had side bars which help me to stand up when I felt it was appropriate.
Before the show started, I got to meet several people, some old and some new. Rilla Fleming saw me come into the venue and came over and gave me a big hug. We talked for a few minutes until they opened the doors to the concert hall. As I was taking my seat, the girl sitting behind me asked me if I was “Arline”. Her name is Alice and she knew me from talking to Moody Jill at Moody Blues Attitude. We had a nice chat. I expected to see Linda Sailor before the show but her seat was empty. However, she was there before Justin came out and I went over and said hello. I finally got to meet her and her friend, Pat. It's so great to put a face to a name finally!!!
So the show itself – Justin was wonderful!!! He sounded better than he did in the last two concerts by far!! His voice seemed strong. The thing I loved most was the “eye contact”. He looked in my direction a LOT but when he did, he stared at me, as though trying to look into my mind, or heart, or soul. And during IKYOTS, I felt like he was singing just to me as we shared so much eye time during that song. I was ready to just melt into a puddle on the floor. And he looked better too. Don't know if it was make-up or what, but his color was great and he looked relaxed! During “The Best is Yet to Come”, Julie hit a wrong note on her keyboard and he stopped singing. He then laughed and told Julie that if she wanted to go outside and scream, we would all wait for her. She pretended like she was going to do that but didn't really leave. I sometimes wonder if these “incidents” are arranged or just really happen. But it was fun anyway. So he started over and everything went fine.
At the end of the show, I asked Justin for a pic but he might not have heard me with all the applause going on. However, after the show, I spoke to my girlfriend, Janine Ragan (who I saw at all the concerts with her husband, James, who takes great photos – visit his FB page) and she told me to ask the tech, Chris, for one. So I walked back up to the stage and asked Chris and he said he would get one for me. Janine and another lady also came up to the stage. Chris brought over five pics and handed them out to everyone who was standing at the stage. So I managed to get a pic after all!! I was on Cloud 9 as I was leaving the show.
I have to inject one bad note – this was the worst motel of the three I had stayed in. It didn't even have a telephone or a clock radio!!!!!!! And I felt very unsafe in my room so the chair went under the door knob!! I just have to get better hotels next time.
One last note – one thing I ask of my late husband is that he help me find good parking spots when I'm going to a concert or shopping, e etc. And he very rarely fails me. In Ft. Pierce, I found a space on the street almost directly across from the venue. And in Clearwater, I saw a guy pulling out of a space, again right across from the Capitol Theatre and I pulled a quick U-turn to get it. Unfortunately, a car in front of me had spotted it first and was trying to park there. Fortunately, his car was too big and he couldn't make it so that space was MINE!!! It's so nice to come out of the venue, cross the street and be at my car!! Thanks, Steve!!
I'm still sort of not really settled back to earth yet. I am so glad to know that I have one more concert to look forward to. I hope I'm right up front since I think I'll take Justin flowers at this venue. A gal on FB reserved a table for four and I bought one of her excess tickets. But we won't know our table number until the night of the show. But my son said he thinks the tables for four are right up front. I hope so.
I hope you have enjoyed reading my reviews. I love writing them.
